Wood is the primary author. Each species is selected for structural voice and aging character. Finishes are hand-rubbed, never sprayed. The material is the message.

Deep, rich chocolate tones with pronounced grain figure. The signature species of the house.

European oak treated through a fuming process that penetrates the grain, producing warm grey-brown depth.

Blonde, open-pored, and luminous. Contrasts dark interiors with restrained warmth.

Quarter-sawn for medullary ray figure. Warm honey tones with subtle chatoyance.

Reddens with age and light. Smooth closed grain with a living patina.
Multiple coats of polymerized tung oil, hand-rubbed to a satin sheen. Reveals grain depth without film build.
European hardwax offering tactile warmth and natural feel while protecting against moisture.
Catalyzed lacquer with a restrained sheen. Superior protection for high-use hospitality pieces.
Near-invisible protection with minimal surface reflection. Maintains raw material honesty.

Every board is selected by hand. We work with a small network of sawyers who understand that grain figure, color consistency, and structural soundness are not optional - they are the foundation. Each slab is dried to 6-8% moisture content before it enters the workshop.
We use traditional joinery - mortise and tenon, dovetails, through-wedges - because these connections gain strength with age. Mechanical fasteners supplement where required by scale or code, but the primary structure is always wood-to-wood. Visible joinery is a feature, not an apology.
Our hand-rubbed oil finish requires six to eight coats applied over three to five days. Each coat is worked into the surface by hand, allowed to penetrate, and then buffed. The result is a surface that reveals grain depth, shifts with the light, and develops character over years. Lacquer and hardwax options are available for hospitality and high-wear applications.
There is no warehouse. Every piece is made to order, dimensioned and finished to the specific requirements of the commission. This is not custom in the sense of choosing a fabric swatch - it is custom in the sense that each piece is made for a particular room, a particular wall, a particular light.

Furnishing systems for hotels, restaurants, bars, offices, and reception spaces - designed at the project level, not the product level. Every commission begins with the space, not the catalog.

An interiors house earns confidence through the permanence of its work, the honesty of its process, and the clarity of its service - not through marketing. These are the reasons clients return.
Mortise and tenon, dovetails, through-wedges - connections that gain strength with age. Where mechanical fasteners are required by scale or code, they supplement the primary wood-to-wood structure. Visible joinery is a feature, not an apology.
We work with a small network of sawyers who understand that grain figure, color consistency, and structural soundness are not optional. Each slab is dried to 6-8% moisture content before it enters the workshop. We provide species origin and drying documentation on request.
Our oil finish requires six to eight coats applied over three to five days, each worked into the surface by hand. Lacquer and hardwax options are applied with the same care. We document the finish process for every commission and provide care guidance for long-term maintenance.
We do not over-promise timelines to secure a commission. Lead times reflect real workshop capacity - 10-14 weeks for essential pieces, 14-20 weeks for signature and bespoke work, 16-24 weeks for project-scale hospitality commissions. Progress images are shared at key milestones.
Every piece is blanket-wrapped and delivered by specialist handlers. For residential commissions, we offer placement and on-site finishing adjustment. For hospitality and commercial projects, we coordinate installation, leveling, and final inspection with your contractor.
Architects, interior designers, and hospitality specifiers receive 2D and 3D assets, finish and species samples shipped on request, specification sheets with load ratings and clearance dimensions, and a dedicated project liaison for multi-unit commissions.
A Haus Volkmar piece is not consumed. It is acquired - and then it accumulates meaning for as long as it stands.
The hand-rubbed oil finish deepens with age. The joinery tightens with seasonal movement. The surface develops a biography of use that cannot be replicated. This is furniture designed to outlast the room it was made for - and to carry the evidence of every year it has stood.

The finish of a Volkmar table changes in the first year of ownership. The oil continues to crosslink, the surface tightens, and the grain figure deepens. This is not degradation - it is the beginning of the object's biography.
